Elite Squad

To be eligible for entry into and remain in Elite Squad, swimmers must:

Show a willingness to be part of Elite squad through attendance at training sessions with Eastbourne Swimming Club and the club's coaches. (Attendance is defined as training a minimum of 3 to 4 times per week depending on the age of the swimmer. The number of sessions for each swimmer will be defined by the squad coach.) Failure to train with the squad for more than any given two week period is a failure to meet the basic criteria unless agreed in writing (email) with the squads coach.

Team Competitions: To show a clear willingness to swim for the club at team events such as Arena League and Sussex league when selected for said teams.

Club Championships: To enter and compete at all Club Championship competitions. Unless otherwise agreed with the squad coach.

Open Meets: To attend open meets as defined by the club coaches in order to meet County and Regional qualification times. Unless otherwise agreed with the squad coach.

County and Regional Competition: To attend and compete at these events under the Eastbourne Swimming Club team. Unless otherwise agreed with the squad coach.

Attend Saturday morning training once invited  by the Elite Squad  Coach. These sessions are additional to the normal minimum training sessions.

Have achieved 5 County Championships Qualifying Times and ideally have reached Regional qualification.

Be aged 12+ (female) or 13+ (male) in line with National Championship qualification minimum ages.

Be mentally, physically and emotionally ready to attend Elite squad. This will be assessed by the coaches at training and competitions.

Committed to training a minimum of 4 times per week (Saturday is additional and not included in the 4 sessions per week).

Be able to perform the following:

  • 400m FC Kick in less than 10 minutes.
  • 10 x 100m FC on 1:40
  • 5 x 100 IM on 2:00 with good technique, legal turns and streamlining to 10m 

Failure to meet these  criteria could result in any swimmer being moved to a different squad within the clubs competitive structure as deemed appropriate by the clubs coaches.
