Open Water Swimming

Eastbourne Swimming Club do not offer any Open Water Swimming activities and any Club Members taking part are not covered by the Club's insurance. Club Members taking part do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own private insurance cover should they feel it necessary.

However, some of our Masters swimmers and members of the public do meet up at the beach opposite the Langham Hotel for a sea swim throughout the year on Saturdays and Sundays. Mid week swims are also arranged. During August there is also a swim every Monday evening at 6.00 p.m. Since 2013 night swimming at the time of the Full Moon has also become popular.

Swimmers are of varied ability levels so you will be able to find someone of similar ability to swim with whether that is fast or slow, for 500m or for over 2Km, with or without wetsuit. Special swims have included swimming the Seven Sisters, a Beachy Head lighthouse swim i.e. Holywell to Birling Gap, swimming down the Cuckmere and many more.

If you are interested in Open Water Swimming you can read about them and contact them by going to the following Facebook page: Eastbourne Sea Swimmers.

Alternatively you can always go down and meet with them at the Langham Hotel to see what they do and join them for coffee and a chat, after their swim.

For those wishing to race in open water, sea swims are held at several South East coastal Towns. There are competitions and other events to suit most abilities ranging from 1 to 5 km not only in the sea but also in lakes and rivers.
